FOOD TRUCK QUICK BITE: OUI CHEF FRENCH AMERICAN CUISINE

It's a mostly sunny, breezy Saturday and what better time to hit up SOMA StrEat Food Park to grab some grub while running errands. The SO and  get lucky with the parking and make the circle stroll to see what our choices are. Normally we end up getting different things but there are only a handful of truck today and by some miraculousness we both decide to try the same vendor and hit up Oui Chef.

Fortunately the menu doesn't overwhelm you with choices and we were able to agree on splitting a grilled herb pesto chicken sandwich to start.

A grilled pesto herb chicken breast with tomato, swiss cheese, mixed spring greens, herb vinaigrette on a toasted sesame bun. It's a good sandwich. You aren't overwhelmed with the pesto, it's more like an essence that just adds additional flavor to the juicy chicken. The swiss though gets lost a bit and for me I think a stronger cheese, like provolone, might have complimented better. Plus, you know, buttering the bun, but as usual, that's just me. So, as I said a tasty, decent chicken sandwich, though the $10 price does affect my tastebuds just a bit. Next up we split an order of chicken schnitzel sliders.

Pounded, breaded chicken breast deep fried with tomato, mixed spring greens, aged balsamic reduction and fried egg on toasted brioche bun. These were made to order so they were fresh, crispy and hot and again a good set of sandwiches. I liked the addition of the egg here though it was fried a tad hard so the yolk didn't run through like you might normally get. Which would have been nice as there also wasn't much reduction thus the sandwich felt like it was dryer than it really is--basically it really needed some extra sauce with all the bread you have here. Beyond that, we both enjoyed the different parts of the sandwich and just a little sauce would take it from good to great. I'll give them a pass on the $9.50 price point as they were bigger than you standard sliders.

And of course we got a side of fries with a smattering of parmesan cheese. Hot, crispy, tasty--surprised they didn't have some special dipping sauce, but hey--their fries!!!

Since both the SO and I liked the food for the most part I'd say if you see Oui Chef tooling around to give them a try--that's two yeses for the price of one. Though, just remember to ask for more sauce.
