PRETTY PLEASE BAKESHOP..ONE OUT OF TWO AIN'T BAD

It's a brilliant Saturday in San Francisco, the SO is out sailing so what do I do? I go out trolling for new bakeries to find the perfect cupcake or some other icing covered deliciousness to sate my genetic sugary cravings. And so it was that I found myself in the Richmond district and stumbled upon Pretty Please Bakeshop.

On a side street off Clement this quaint little place has a the counter at the front door and a little seating area to sit and consume the baked goods. They have a number of things to choose from including cookies, cakes and a deconstructed cupcake in a plastic cup--interesting but on this day I decided to go traditional and try some cupcakes which seem to be a specialty.  



First up was a Snickers cupcake--chocolate buttermilk cake, dark chocolate ganache, peanut butter buttercream frosting, salted caramel and crushed roasted salted peanuts. Sounds like a lot but somehow it all works. Cake was moist and light with the caramel filling and the salted nuts and peanut butter keep the frosting from being too sweet. The crushed peanuts also work to give it some crunchy texture like a Snickers bar. All in all a winner and tasty treat. 

Next was the carrot cake cupcake with pineapple, coconut and toasted walnuts with a whipped cream cheese frosting. The girl behind the counter said this was her favorite and that is why I decided to give it a try. However, she failed to mention the copious use of coconut in it and the sign didn't say anything either and well coconut is not my favorite thing and here was used in over abundance. This was more coconut than carrot and you couldn't taste the supposed pineapple at all. It was a coconut, cinnamon and nutmeg cupcake and not much to my liking. Saving grace here was the frosting--a delicious whipped cream cheese with little flecks of fresh vanilla bean that was light, airy and creamy. I pretty much scraped the top off and left the cake part. 

As with most bakeries they have many choices and if you go you will probably find something you like, such is the joy of a good bakery, especially one like this where everything is baked fresh in their tiny little kitchen behind the front display case. You should stop by--I'm sure something there will tempt you.
